Jesus is Worshipped

  1. John 20:28 -- Although we are not told that Thomas fell to his knees when he spoke the words, "My Lord and My God," it should be clear that they are not really a response to Jesus request that he feel the wounds in his hands or side. The are the words of a man struck with awe, and perhaps also guild over the doubt he had so recently expressed. To confess that Jesus is Lord and God is to worship him -- the early Christians knew this well for these are the words they were asked to apply to the Emperor, but would not on pain of death.
  2. Hebrews 1:6 -- We are told that all God's angels should worship Christ. From Strong's concordanceproskuneo, pros-koo-neh'-o; from G4314 and a prob. der. of G2965 (mean. to kiss, like a dog licking his master's hand); to fawn or crouch to, i.e. (lit. or fig.) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to, adore):--worship. While it is certainly true that this may involve a form of honor only, and it is was known to be used that way in early Greek writing, the evidence is that in the New Testament it was rare for it to be applied in any context except worship of God. This is especially evident in Rev 19:10 where we are told to worship only God.
  3. John 5:23 -- We are told to honor the Son as we honor the Father, and what is worship but the highest possible form of honor?
