FREE BIRD WATCHING TOURS:

The New York Botanical Gardens offers free birding tours, led by Debbie Becker, inside the park every Tuesday and Friday. Binoculars and comfortable shoes are recommended. A bird guide, such as Roger Tory Peterson's "Eastern Birds" is also recommended, although Becker says she often shares hers. Tours begin at 1:30 p.m. and last 90 minutes.

BRONX BIRD-A-THON TEAM

Peter Mott, a borough birdwatcher, and a volunteer for the city's chapter of the National Audubon Society, invites residents to join the Bronx Bird-A-Thon team, which will spend a day of intensive birdwatching on May 6. Mott can be reached at 548-3061.
