Latest announcement is at the top:

For Fall 2011.

Overview: Planning to take Bio C2005 or F2401? See FAQs for prospective students in C2005/F2401.

Note on the course web site: We are in the process of switching our web site to New Courseworks (Sakai). We think that everything you need before class starts has been updated. Some parts of the web site, such as the schedule and reading list, that you do not need until class begins, have not yet been updated. (The schedule will be very similar, but the dates given need to be revised.) We will switch everything over and update it for 2011 by the first day of class.

Exam Info:     Midterm dates for the fall will be Tuesday 10/4, Thursday 10/27, & Thursday 12/1. The Final will be 12/20 (a Tuesday). All exams will be in the pm. The complete schedule will be posted as soon as it is ready.

Times: All midterm exams for both F2401 & C2005 are given in the evening at 5:40. There will be later (7:30 - 9:10 PM) midterm exam sessions for Biol. C2005 Section 001 students who have job or class conflicts at the regular times. To attend the late session you need to sign up before the exam, and provide written proof of the conflict. Details of the procedure will be provided later. Final will be 12/20 at 4:10. Please be careful about buying tickets!

Text books: You do not necessarily need to buy the Savada and Becker texts; see FAQs.

You absolutely must buy the Problem Book. You don't need it until after the class starts. It will be available at the Village Copier, Broadway near 112th St.

If you want to get a head start on the class, you can read the first few chapters in either text or its equivalent (see reading list). If you have a weak background in biology, you may want to read all of chapters 1-4 (in either text). We don't cover the material in chapter 4 until next term, but you may find it easier to get the "big picture" if you skim the chapter now. You can also look at the notes for the first few lectures from last year to get some idea of our approach.  Don't try the problems until you have attended and digested the lectures.

SCHEDULING PROBLEMS?: C2005 students should sign up for either section 001 (morning lectures) or section 002 (evening lectures together with F2401 students), depending on other classes scheduled. In reality students may attend either section freely on any given day, or both.

Recitations

F2401 Recitations. These are held every week, starting the 2nd week of class. No sign up is required.

C2005 Recitations. A web sign up will be posted -- you do not have to sign up until the first week of class. Recitations are NOT assigned on a first come - first served basis. Recitations will start the second week of class.
