Why does using the same enzyme to catalyze both the hydrolysis of
ATP and the synthesis of G-6-P mean that the energy produced by the ATP
hydrolysis can be used to drive the G-6-P sythesis and it (the energy
produced by the ATP synthesis) is no longer lost as heat?
If the reactions are physically coupled they are no longer two separate
reactions but just one reaction: G + ATP <--> G6P + ADP, and the delta Go for
that reaction is about -3.4 kcal/mole.
