C3600   Biological Research Skills  Fall 2007

 

Companion course to C3500.                        1 point.

Corequisite:  This course is required for all students enrolled in C3500 (Individual Topics) for the first time. Students who have previously done SURF, but not C3500 are also required to take this course. Students who take C3500 for the first time in the Spring are not required to take C3600 but they are allowed to if they are presently taking C3500.

 

Course Requirements:

            Attendance at all sessions and oral presentation of research one to two times.

 

Course Plan

            The first part of the course will have five presentations from faculty to illustrate different approaches to experimental biomedical research.

Tues. Sept. 11: Prof. John Hunt;  Biochemical approaches

 

Tues. Sept. 18: Prof. Elizabeth Miller;  Cell biology approaches

 

Tues. Sept. 25: Prof. Daniel Kalderon;  Genetic approaches

 

Tues. Oct. 2: Prof. Virginia Cornish; Chemical approaches

 

Tues. Oct. 9: Prof. Ron Prywes; Molecular biology approaches

 

There will likely be a break for a few weeks and student presentations will be scheduled in subsequent classes. Power point presentations should have about five slides and last no more than 10 minutes. Details will be provided later.
