During his Ph. D. at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (Lausanne, Switzerland) Robert has addressed correlations between local adhesion hysteresis and friction in the case of engineering as well as soft materials (i.e. proteins).
As a post-doc at Georgia Tech (Atlanta, USA) he has studied formation of local capillary bridges and rheology and friction of water confined in sub-nanometer gaps (applications include biological ion channels). He has confirmed validity of the water phase diagram down to the volumes of several nanometer cube. He dealt also with dynamics of polymers at local scales, and has developed a novel thermochemical nanolithography technique.
At Prof. Fernandez Lab, Dr. Robert Szoszkiewicz studies elasticity of proteins and mechanochemical reactions of proteins at the single molecule level.
