I was born in Washington, D.C. on March 10th, 1978 but grew up in
Potsdam, New York. I graduated from Stanford with a B.S. and M.S. in
Biological Sciences and a secondary major in physics in 2002 and then
spent one year living in St. Petersburg, Russia and traveling among
the former soviet republics and Eastern Europe. After this experience
abroad, I returned to Stanford and worked as a technician in the lab
of Steve Block working on the mechanics of nucleotide folding in 2003
while applying to graduate programs. I am now a graduate student in
the lab of Julio Fernandez studying protein mechanics.
The aim of my research is detecting small, short-lived intermediates
in the folding and unfolding of proteins.
