Alexander Braun Milgrom
Graduate Student
I grew up in Carmel, Indiana and recently graduated from Haverford College, right outside of Philadelphia, with a BS in Biology and a minor in Spanish. At Haverford, I conducted research in murine thymocyte development, specifically trying to better understand the expression of chemokine receptor CCR7 in immature thymocytes that leads to an intrathymic migration essential to establish proper central tolerance of the immune system. My research interests predominantly lie in immunology, genetics, oncology, and virology that would connect with medicine.

My other research experience includes a summer internship at NIH and several summers spent at the Transplant Immunology Laboratory at the Indiana University Medical Center. At NIH I worked with a PI that did research concerning septic shock. We investigated tests and treatments commonly used in hospital ICUs to determine their effectiveness. While at the Transplant Immunology Lab I helped prepare specimens for freezing as well as tested whether an ELISA that could be used to match HLA types in immunosuppressed patients would be useful with the immunosuppresants commonly used by the transplant program at Indiana University.

As for my interests, I'm an avid reader and I enjoy playing basketball, tennis, and rugby. Sadly, my rugby days are most likely over due to the high likelihood of injury. I love dogs, and the fact that they are ubiquitous in New York goes a long way towards brightening my day.
