Bo Chen
Graduate Student
I am Bo Chen from China. I graduated from Peking University with a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. As an undergraduate I tested the efficacy of Gal4-UAS transactivation system to overexpress zebrafish (Danio rerio) endogenous genes. I also tried to express and purify a zebrafish protein in E coli. These experiences familiarize me with some of the molecular biology and biochemical skills. I love animals and numbers ever since childhood, and this is the main reason I chose to do zebrafish genetics. Here in Columbia University, I want to have a better understanding of biology and expand my knowledge in mathematics, physics, and computer programming, so that I can try to apply the knowledge in biology research to explore the mechanisms of macromolecules.
In my spare time I like various sports: running, swimming, Aikido, Latin dance, rock-climbing and so on. And I love musicals and visiting museums, which New York has a great to offer. I am also looking forward for making new friends here, and getting to know different cultures.
