My hometown is Hangzhou, a beautiful city in eastern China. I graduated from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology this year with a B.S. in Biochemistry. As an undergrad, I worked in Dr. Robert Qi’s lab on the CDK5RAP2 protein, a novel centrosomal component with many functions that affect mitosis. My work mainly focused on a conserved gamma-tubulin association domain near the N-terminus. I enjoyed the time in the lab very much, excited about research and feeling that it is very rewarding although demanding and rather labor-intensive. I also studied at UC Davis for 2 quarters in spring 2006 in an overseas exchange program.

I’m very excited about coming to New York City and to Columbia for my doctoral degree. My interest still lies in molecular and cell biology, I plan on exploring more about the cell, perhaps the cytoskeleton or molecular pathogenesis of neurological diseases.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling, cooking, and swimming. I look forward to visiting the Met and listening to Broadway musicals.
