 | Hi everyone, my name is Chris and I graduated from Cornell University in 2006 with a B.S. in biological sciences with a concentration in cell and molecular biology. During my undergraduate studies, I worked in two very different laboratories under Professor Jeff Doyle (plant phylogenetics) and Professor Nikolaus Osterrieder (molecular virology). As it turns out, I am not certain in which field I will be pursuing a Ph.D. here at Columbia. While these labs did provide me with valuable experience and insight into what research as a career would be like, my undergraduate coursework has peaked my interest in physical and structural biology. In terms of what I would like to do with my life, my interest in research combined with several teaching experiences at Cornell lead me to believe that a career in academia may be somewhere on the horizon.
On the more personal side of things, I grew up in Richfield Springs, NY, which is a very beautiful, very unexciting village in Central New York that was known to Native Americans of the area as “Stinky Water” due to the area’s relatively famous sulphur springs. In my free time, I enjoy working out, playing basketball and tennis, and getting lost in New York. |
