Hello all who care to read about me! I received my Bachelor’s in Neuroscience and Behavior from Vassar College, but I wish to delve into neurogenetics for my PhD. My laboratory experiences/traveling adventures are a bit bizarre. I’ve worked in India performing biochemical assays and making medicines from indigenous plants and herbs. I’ve also spent time volunteering in a remote hospital and lab in Thailand, analyzing amniotic fluid for the genetic disease, Thalassemia, and performing grunt work for Mahidol University as they attempted to create a vaccination for Dengue Fever.
I am currently working in a hospital on an American military base in Lajes, Terceira, in the Azores. I have the weekends off to explore this beautiful island that is so diverse in its flora and fauna. These past two weeks there has been a festival in the local village of Angra to celebrate St. John the Baptist’s birthday. One parade is dedicated to the talents of others and everyone is welcome to share their talent. I performed a dance with Poi, a Thai game of two strings with balls attached to the ends that you twirl around and, when you’re skilled enough, light on fire. I am thrilled to join all of you in September for the next six years! It may be my most exciting adventure yet.
