Lalanti Venkatasubramanian
Graduate Student

I have spent most of my life growing up in Chennai, India and completed my undergraduate studies in the field of Biotechnology. Through various internships I grew interested in developmental neurobiology and the range of research that is possible in the field. My fascination with this area of study is focussed on signal transduction pathways and for my undergraduate thesis I contributed towards identifying novel members of a pathway regulating synaptic development in Drosophila. Being part of a project that was putting together an entire pathway was very stimulating and presently I could see myself taking up something similar. I have been fortunate to have worked and interacted with some amazing scientists in the field and at the same time I am excited to explore different areas of research through my lab rotations here at Columbia.

I am a foodie at heart, and my idea of relaxing usually involves cooking and baking. I also enjoy painting, sketching and recently, photography as well. I have always been passionate about wildlife and its conservation and try to contribute whenever I get the opportunity. I am also a keen traveller and I look forward to check out different locations in and around the US during my stay here.
