Linda Po Chu Yu
Graduate Student
I was born in Hong Kong but moved to the United States when I was young. I spent most of my life in San Francisco until I left for college. At the University of California, San Diego, I double majored in Biochemistry and Sociology. After deciding to focus more of my energy on Biochemistry, I joined Dr. Gourisankar Ghosh's lab. The main focus of my research there was on the transcription factor NF-kB. NF-kB constitutes a family of transcription factors that regulate the expression of a large number of genes by binding to specific DNA sequences known as kB sites. Database searches revealed certain genes that contained loose consensus kB sites that are found near known kB sites. I tested these genes to see if the new kB-like sequence may bind NF-kB by cooperating with the neighboring consensus kB site. My time spent in the Ghosh lab helped me to realize my passion for research and encouraged me to further pursue this passion by continuing on to graduate school.

Having lived in California most of my life, I am excited to have a chance to move to the East Coast and explore the other side of the country for the next some odd years. When I am not in lab, I enjoy reading, crocheting, and attending baseball games.
