 | I grew up in Denver, CO and attended college at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA where I received a B.S. in Mathematics in 2004. After a year’s respite from formal education, I returned to school at the University of Colorado in Denver and discovered my interest in Biology, subsequently enrolling in the Master’s program there. What began as a more general interest in plant science has become a fascination with molecular biology. As such, my thesis involved using molecular biology to study possible evolutionary forces in a large genus of sedges. Specifically, I used short non-coding nuclear DNA sequences to identify different species and hybrids, the latter of which may contribute to gene flow between species.
My interests in Biology are still broad, but some favorite topics include epigenetics and mRNA processing. Outside of the lab I enjoy traveling, jogging, and reading. I am looking forward to living in New York and experiencing all the diversity and culture it has to offer. |
