I am a Chinese boy from Tsinghua University. Born in 1987, I am the only child of my family. I entered college at the age of 14, and now I am 18 years old. I like playing the piano very much. I began playing the piano at 4, and I have been keeping practicing it since then. I have given performances of piano in a number of places in China as well as Sydney and Melbourne. That also makes Carnegie Hall the most attractive place in New York for me. My favorite piece of music is Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1. Besides playing the piano, I also like swimming, playing computer games, and listening to Celine Dion’s music.
I am interested in doing research on developmental biology, especially in biological processes such as cell differentiation and cell fate determination. In my undergraduate years, we discovered that a protein formerly believed to be involved in apoptosis is actually related to cell differentiation. Since then, I found myself more and more attracted by these cellular processes. I wish to continue this kind of research in Columbia University.
