I
am Yixuan Wu from Jiangsu, China. This July I graduated from Tsinghua
University with a Bachelor degree in biological sciences. Interestingly, Chen
Chen and I were classmates in Tsinghua and now we are still classmates as
graduate students. It's very lucky for me to have a familiar friend in new
circumstances and I am eager to make new friends with all of you in Columbia
University.
I
was working in a structural biology laboratory in Tsinghua University for about
one and a half years. During that time, I learnt using crystallography and
biochemical methods to determine 3D structures of proteins, particularly
membrane proteins, thus illustrating the functional mechanism of certain
important biological processes. It was an impressive experience, and structural
biology still attracts me. Since I don't have many research experiences, I
would like to explore some other fields, such as molecular biology, systems and
computational biology. On the one hand, I would find my favorite place. On the
other hand, I want to improve my ability to take advantage of different tools
to solve problems.
In my spare time, I
like watching music videos, movies and TV plays. My favorite sports are
aerobics dancing and badminton. I like dogs a lot and have a toy poodle named
"little bear" in my home. I look forward to starting my new life in Columbia
University and I will try my best.
