Teaching Positions

The Department of Biological Sciences at Columbia University (116th St. & Broadway, NYC) is seeking a lecturer or adjunct faculty member to teach Genetics in the fall and/or spring of the 2003-04 academic year. This position is a replacement for a faculty member who is on sabbatical. The salary is negotiable, but in the higher ranges for an adjunct position. The position is for one semester, but may be extended. A Ph.D. and experience in either teaching or doing genetics is required. The course to be offered should be of an equivalent level, but could focus more on the area of expertise of the instructor.

Research Assistant

Description
To assist ongoing experiments in a Molecular Biology laboratory studying mechanisms and regulation of gene expression in the mammalian cell nucleus. Will conduct and work with recombinant DNA molecules, as well as synthesize, purify and analyze RNA products. Purification of proteins involved in mRNA transcription and processing from recombinant DNA sources will also be expected. Although major duties will be research related, the individual will also assist with maintenance of lab stocks and supplies.

Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field. Experience in Molecular Biology lab, especially with recombinant DNA methodologies. Additional experience with RNA or protein analysis desirable.

Salary Range: $27,500-$30,000
