US Amgen Scholars Alumni Travel Awards

The awards were first offered in spring 2011 to encourage professional networking opportunities for program alumni focused on scientific careers. In the past year, award recipients have presented at conferences in a wide variety of destinations in the US and abroad, including Barcelona, Hong Kong, Seattle, Paris, Kyoto, and Washington, DC.

Alumni meeting the following eligibility guidelines are invited to apply:

• Must be an alumnus/a of the U.S. Amgen Scholars Program
• Currently enrolled in a graduate program in an Amgen-related science or engineering field (PhD, MD/PhD or master’s), OR
• Currently enrolled or previously enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and presenting specifically on research conducted while an Amgen Scholar
• Selected to participate in an upcoming research conference (proof of participation is required at the time of application)

The Amgen Scholars U.S. Alumni Travel Awards are intended to provide partial support of up to $1,500 for national or international conference expenses. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and application deadlines to be considered. Funding for these travel awards is available through the generous support of the Amgen Foundation.

The deadline for submitting all application materials is Monday, September 9th, 2013. Applicants are notified of decision by September 24th. All details for these awards including eligibility and requirements information, a PDF application, and faculty evaluation form are easily accessed from the online Amgen Scholars Community (username and password required):

Graduate students presenting on current research are eligible for the award. Alumni undergraduates who are planning to present research they conducted while an Amgen Scholar are also invited to apply. Please check out the Alumni Travel Awards page on the online community for information about the award timeline, eligibility and FAQs. And see this advice for U.S. applicants on how to boost your chances of winning.
