Course Assistants for summer 2012 Neurobiology (NB) course at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), Woods Hole, MA. NB is an intensive, 8-week laboratory/lecture summer course for pre- and postdoctoral students. The CAs work under the supervision of the two Course Directors. Duties include overseeing inventory, ordering supplies, assisting faculty, running errands, helping to organize social events, and many other diverse and important functions. Training is provided by MBL before the course begins. The CAs must be in residence between June 1 and August 8, 2012. Hours are flexible but include late nights and weekends. Applicants should have at least 2 years of undergraduate training in biology or a related field. The positions require initiative, flexibility, organizational skills, basic familiarity with laboratory techniques, and the ability to work well with other people in an intensive environment. Compensation includes a minimum salary of $468, room & board, and round-trip travel to Woods Hole. Match Corps: Merrimack Valley is a full-time, 10.5-month urban education math tutoring fellowship in two high schools in the Merrimack Valley. We are hiring 50 smart, idealistic, relentless people to work during the 2012-2013 school year. Each Fellow works during the school day with two students at a time for five periods a day, and will have a personal caseload of 12 students all year long. Fellows not only will drive student achievement by providing individualized instruction, but will also build personal and meaningful relationships with urban students and their families during this pioneer year of service.

Editorial Internship with the Life Sciences Textbook Division at W. W. Norton & Co.:The life sciences department at W. W. Norton & Co., a leading publisher of college-level textbooks, is looking for a junior or senior undergraduate student studying science with an interest in educational publishing. Applicants should be interested in applying their knowledge of biology, microbiology, evolution, and/or biochemistry to analyze trends in undergraduate science textbooks. Other duties will include assisting with manuscript preparation, book review programs, and market research. Ideal candidates will be organized, detail-oriented, independent workers with strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as a demonstrated ability to apply factual knowledge to analysis of varied situations.
