| Course Description | Prerequisites: One year of organic chemistry, one year of biology. Lecture: MWF 9:00-9:50. Problem section: W 12:00-12:50. Introduction to biochemical building blocks, macromolecules, and metabolism. Structures of amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids. Protein structure and folding. Enzyme mechanisms, kinetics, allostery. Membranes. Protein and genetic engineering. Catabolism and anabolism with emphasis on chemical intermediates, metabolic energy, catalysis by specific enzymes, regulation. |
