Course Description The history of social dancing from the Renaissance to the present: waltz, contradances, ragtime, jazz, disco. Topics include dance “manias”; youth and anti-dance movements; intersections between the ballroom, stage, and film; competitive, exhibition, and “flash mob” dancing. Lectures based on archival sources, film, literature, music, images, and live performances.
