Course Description Prerequisites: Equivalent of four years of Modern Japanese, or three years of Modern Japanese with Classical Japanese. In this course, students will have the opportunity to apply and improve their Japanese language skills through translating works of modern Japanese literature in a variety of genres, including narrative fiction, personal essay, and criticism, while considering the various interpretive, aesthetic, and linguistic challenges posed by literary translation generally, and the translation of Japanese into English, specifically. Students are required to have either completed the equivalent of four years of Modern Japanese or three years of Modern Japanese in conjunction with Classical Japanese.
