Course Description This course is offered to all Columbia University students, post-doctoral scientists, clinical fellows, new investigators, faculty, and administrators. The course meets on the following dates: February 16, 2017, March 2, 2017, March 9, 2017, March 23, 2017, March 30, 2017, and April 27, 2017. Topics covered include: (1) Types of funding vehicles and review processes for research, career development, and training activities; (2) Different types of funding agencies (e.g. government agencies, foundations, voluntary health organizations, professional societies, and industry); (3) Clinical trials; (4) Gifts and development; (5) Planning and organizing a research proposal (NIH application used as a reference); (6) Planning and organizing career development and fellowship applications (NIH applications used as references); (7) University internal review procedures; (8) Identifying sources of funding; (9) Panel discussion with experienced researchers addressing the practice of seeking grant support; (10) and Presentation by a faculty member with significant experience as a reviewer of government and non-government grant applications.
