Course Description | Phenomenological theoretical understanding of electrons in crystalline materials. Both translational and point symmetry employed to block diagonalize the Schrödinger equation and compute observables related to electrons. Topics include nearly free electrons, tight-binding, electron-electron interactions, transport, magnetism, optical properties, topological insulators, spin-orbit coupling, and superconductivity. Illustrated using both minimal model Hamiltonians in addition to accurate Hamiltonians for real materials. |
