Course Description A historical survey of trends of Russian musical modernism in the context of Russian cultural history of the first half of the twentieth century. Works by Chaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Scriabin, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Mosolov, Shostakovich and Schnittke will be considered alongside notable events of contemporary literature, visual art, and aethetic theory. Knowledge of Russian not required.
