Course Description An advanced seminar for doctoral students in public health and the social sciences. The course objective is to provide students with instruction and hands-on experience in applying methods of quantitative analysis to research problems in social sciences with an emphasis on public health, health care and health behaviors.Topics covered include formulation of research questions and hypotheses, issues in complex sample design, measurement of variables, specification and estimation of single equations and systems of simultaneous equations to model casual relationships. Combines didactic lectures and active participation of students in computer labs and class presentations. Requirements center on analysis of a single data base provided by instructors. Students devise a research study and work in small groups to investigate the problem with the class  data base.
