Independent Study B8000

Students may work on a significant research problem related to their professional needs. The nature and extent of this independent study are determined by the student and a faculty sponsor. With faculty approval, this course may be used to satisfy either a concentration or an elective requirement. The student may register for B8000 only once in a term and generally must have received no grades below Pass; permission to register in an additional term may be granted if the student meets specified academic criteria. The Independent Study Form is available in the Office of Student Affairs.

Field Studies B9002

Field Studies offers students an opportunity to apply the theories and key themes established in the core courses in a dynamic, real-time setting. It is open to all students who have completed at least two terms at the Business School; it may be taken only once and only during a student's term off. The course is supervised by a faculty committee that is appointed by the vice dean; grading is on a pass/fail basis. Students complete a paid or unpaid internship of at least six weeks and are required to gain faculty approval prior to the start of the field study. At the conclusion of the study, students submit an evaluation from their on-site supervisor and a report on an approved topic; students also participate in a debriefing that is conducted by the faculty committee for the benefit of other field study students and the general student body.

Under current regulations, international students holding F-1 visas who enroll in the Field Studies course can be authorized for Curricular Practical Training provided they meet eligibility and procedural requirements.
