Public and Non-profit Management

The public and nonprofit management concentration is an interdivisional concentration designed to help prepare students for careers in the nonprofit and governmental sectors or in businesses such as investment banking and management consulting that provide services to the public and nonprofit sectors. The concentration offers students maximum flexibility in tailoring a program that meets their individual needs and interests. In addition, students may take one independent study course, as well as substitute other courses in the School or University, subject to the School’s regulations and with the permission of the program director of the concentration.

In considering course work in this area, students should note that most electives in the concentration are offered once during each academic year. Students who are interested in concentrating in public and nonprofit management or simply taking courses in this area are advised to confer regularly with the program director to facilitate enrollment in the courses of their choice. In addition, entering students who signal their interest in public and nonprofit management to the Admissions Office will be placed within one or two clusters, depending on the term.

Graduating students who pursue careers in public and nonprofit management are eligible to apply for the School’s Public and Nonprofit Assistance Grant. Those who have accepted management positions in either the public or nonprofit sector upon graduation and who demonstrate educational indebtedness may receive consecutive $5,000 or $7,500 awards.
