For
a Major in Ancient Studies
Courses:
36
points, to include at least four courses in one geographical area
or period, and to include courses in at least three departments
(to ensure proper interdisciplinary training and experience),
the elementary sequence of a relevant ancient language, and the
appropriate history course. The 36-point requirement also includes
at least one term of ANCS V3998-V3999, directed research in some
aspect of ancient studies, with submission of written results
in the form of a paper. In some cases, a senior seminar may be
substituted for this course.
Ancient
language courses appropriate to the various special fields are
strongly recommended and are credited toward the major requirement.
If a student offers more than one ancient language in fulfillment
of major requirements, he or she must take at least the second-year
sequence in one of those languages.
For
a Premedical Concentration in Ancient Studies
Courses:
15 points in relevant courses, with no more than 6 points in courses
in ancient languages. The program for the concentration must be
approved by the departmental representative for Columbia College.
