Research Summary
The Cardiac Tissue Mechanics Laboratory is part of the Cardiac Biomechanics Group at Columbia University. Our central areas of research are structure-function relationships in failing myocardium and myocardial scar tissue, response of cardiac myocytes and fibroblasts to mechanical overload, and noninvasive diagnosis of mechanical dysfunction. The laboratory includes facilities for short- and long-term study of isolated muscles, loaded and unloaded culture of cardiac fibroblasts, and finite element modeling of the heart.
