Community Collaboration Works With The Business School In The Harlem And Momingside Heights Communities To Encourage Economic Growth. The Collaboration Has Five Primary Programs In Which Business School Students Can Participate:

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TAP)

TAP matches Columbia Business School students--as Consultants--with neighborhood organizations and small businesses seeking marketing, management, and/or planning advice. The Technical Assistance Program gives students an opportunity to undertake projects to fulfill school course requirements or serve as an opportunity for community outreach. TAP projects range from preparing a marketing or business plan for a small business to turnaound projects for a local school In previous terms, MBAs have created a start-up plan for a catalogue of greeting cards; a fund raising plan for a local non-profit group; a marketing plan for a multi-cultural educational project; and an advertising campaign for door-to-door racquet stringing service.

YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS PROGRAM

The Young Entrepreneurs Program (YEP) is designed to teach high school students about owning and operating a small business. The program begins near the end of the summer with a two-week seminar held on Columbia's campus. Students attend classes at the Business School where they develop their business ideas into business plans and present their plans as a final project. In the fall, Business School students are paired as mentors with YEP students. Mentors are encouraged to maintain contact with YEP students and can assist the students with their business ideas, admissions test preparation, college selection, or school projects. Mentors are paired one-to-one with the YEP students and have an opportunity to attend social and recreational activities as a group throughout the year.
