Sungmin Ahn
My name is Sungmin (Annika) Ahn. When I transferred to the Horace Mann School in ninth grade, I, in a New York minute, got involved in various clubs. I took a stab at Model UN for two years and played clarinet in the jazz band. I even danced in a pig custom on stage on Asia Night! But eventually I settled into the orchestra as a cellist. I held officer positions in the Women’s Issues Club, East Wind West Wind, and the Documentary Film Club, and I was an Arts Director in a magazine called Folio 51 and a Peer Leader as part of the Horace Mann Orientation program. All these activities gave me the chance to get to know a lot of people with a wide range of interests, so I feel prepared for the diversity we have at Columbia. At 5’1’’ and secretly into dancing in my pig custom, I’m easily approachable and excited to talk about Lady Gaga in one minute and global warming the next.

Sam Meyers
I was born on December 14, 1990 in Forest Hills, NY. At age 2, I moved to Woodcliff Lake, NJ. At age 8, I moved to Suffern, NY where I still reside today. At Suffern High School, I participated in many extra-curricular activities, my favorite of which was the varsity ski team. I was captain of the team for my last two years of school, and we advanced to sectionals in my 12th grade season. DECA club was another organization to which I committed a lot of my time. I was President of the club senior year and I was able to reach the state competition in my freshman, sophomore and senior years.
Other activities that I enjoy are playing pick-up basketball, going to concerts, and playing Guitar Hero. I am a very easy going individual, but I am very dedicated at the same time. If I put my mind to something, I can complete nearly any task. I am willing to work hard, and put in the time to ensure that Columbia University will continue to have an excellent relationship with its student body.

Dylan Longeran
My name is Dylan Lonergan. I was born December 1st 1991 in Queens, New York. Since then I have lived in Upstate New York, Washington, Colorado, Virginia and Okinawa. The latter has shaped my character and influenced who I am, what I have done and of what I am capable.
I am a seventeen year old, Catholic, politically moderate, five foot and eight inch tall, American male. I like music, traveling, (good) food, hockey, film, literature, roller coasters, flip flop sandals, board games and the Internet.
I have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. As Junior Class President, I planned and executed the Junior/Senior Prom for my High School at the Bankoku Shinryokan—a beautiful resort on the coast of Okinawa that was also the location of 2000 G8 Summit. I also helped orchestrate a book and supply drive for under privileged children in Sri Lanka. I also competed in a weeklong journalism conference in Tokyo.
I am capable of: managing my time, getting things done, planning events, making logical and rational decisions and listening to people who know more than I. I am eager to work with CCSC this year.

Derek Gao
Hi everyone. I was born in Virginia, but I moved to California when I was three, so I consider anything below room temperature freezing! You might recognize me in the coming months due to the 50 lbs of thermal insulation gear I'll be wearing (who's that freaky polar bear person?). I may act like a little kid about the weather change (hmm I still crave tantalizing sugary desserts, get embarrassed about the "talk", and watch Sponge Bob), but I'm really excited about living in the East Coast again and having the opportunity to be educated in the conglomerate of passion and culture which is NYC. I look forward to being inspired by the numerous talented individuals who have converged at Columbia University and to learn about their diverse ethnic heritages and backgrounds. I really want to be able to dance Bhangra, eat sweets during a Cinco de Mayo celebration, and integrate myself into the customs of all the other remarkable cultures. I¡¦ve played the piano since childhood, so don't be surprised to see me in stalker mode outside music rooms or to see me randomly rapping (say what?!). Hopefully this biography will extend with the coming year.
