Did you know...
In 1896, University president Seth Low moved the Columbia campus from 49th Street to its present location, a more spacious (and, at the time, more rural) campus in the developing neighborhood of Morningside Heights. The site was formerly occupied by the Bloomingdale Insane Asylum. One of the asylum's buildings, the warden's cottage (currently known as Buell Hall), is still standing today.
