More Awards for Chemistry Faculty
Three Columbia chemistry faculty recently received awards for scholarly research. Prof. Gerard Parkin received the 2008 American Chemical Society (ACS) award in organometallic chemistry; Prof. Colin Nuckolls received a 2008 Arthur C. Cope Scholar award; and Prof. Brent Stockwell received a 2007 Beckman Young Investigator Award.

Established in 1983, The ACS Award in Organometallic Chemistry annually recognizes a researcher who has shown outstanding work in the preparation, properties, reactions, or structure of organometallic substances. The award consists of a certificate, $5,000, and travel expenses to the meeting at which the award will be presented. More information about the work of Professor Parkin can be found at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/chemistry/fac-bios/parkin/faculty.html

The Arthur C. Cope Scholar Awards were established in 1984 to recognize and encourage excellence in organic chemistry. They are administered by the ACS and supported by income from the Arthur C. Cope Foundation. The award consists of a certificate, $5,000, a $40,000 unrestricted research grant, and travel expenses to the ACS fall national meeting. The recipient may also be invited to make a presentation at an ACS regional meeting. More information about the work of Professor Nuckolls can be found at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/chemistry/fac-bios/nuckolls/faculty

The Beckman Young Investigators (BYI) Program, which is administered by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, provides research support to promising young faculty members in the early stages of their careers in the chemical and life sciences. Projects are normally funded for three years with grants in the range of $300,000 over the term of the project. More information about the work of Professor Stockwell can be found at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/chemistry/fac-bios/stockwell/faculty.html
