The chemistry department congratulates Zachary Brill, Sheldon Kwok, Tara Pesce, and Anthony Testa (clockwise, from top left), four of its senior undergraduates who have been awarded early membership into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Zachary and Tara are chemistry majors, Sheldon is a chemical physics major, and Anthony is a biochemistry major.
Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest and arguably most widely known academic honor society, celebrating academic excellence in the liberal arts and the sciences. Members are elected for life. Each year, just 2% of Columbia graduating seniors are selected for Phi Beta Kappa in the fall semester on the basis of their academic achievement and faculty recommendations. An additional 8% of graduating seniors are elected in the spring semester. All Phi Beta Kappa members receive a lifetime subscription to The Key Reporter, the society's publication.
