
Congratulations
to Professor James Leighton, who will receive the Mark Van Doren award for
teaching excellence at the annual award ceremony on May 7. Professor
Leighton is just the fourth chemistry professor to receive this honor in the
48-year history of the award. Previous chemistry recipients are Professor Ronald Breslow, Professor
George Flynn and former Professor Charles Dawson. The awardee is selected
by student members of the Academic Awards Subcommittee of the Columbia College
Student Council, with administrative support and guidance from the Academic
