Columbia chemistry professor Colin Nuckolls has been named a 2007 finalist for a New York Academy of Sciences Blavatnik Award. The Blavatnik Awards celebrate the excellence of the most noteworthy and innovative young scientists in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Being selected as a finalist from among the many excellent potential candidates in the tri-state area is itself an honor with a substantial cash prize and formal recognition. The awards will be announced at the Academy's "Science & the City Gala" in November.
Blavatnik Awards recognize the achievements of young scientists and engineers who have contributed significantly to interdisciplinary research. Prof. Nuckolls work focuses on creating and understanding new types of molecules that can assemble into structures with novel energy transport and conversion properties. Such structures are of interest for the next generation of computer chips, data storage devices, optoelectronic devices, and many other applications. More information on Prof. Nuckolls and his research can be found at here.
