Chemistry Professors Jonathan Owen and Scott Snyder are recipients of 2011 Young Professor Grants from the DuPont Corporation. Each will receive a grant of $25K per year for three years, which may also be used to obtain matching funds through the National Science Foundation or other organizations.
The DuPont program, which began in 1967, provides start-up assistance to promising young and untenured research faculty in chemistry and other areas of research. DuPont supports the program as a way “to identify promising researchers and promising science early in a new professor’s career and to create lasting relationships with future academic scientists”. Candidates are nominated by a member of the DuPont technical staff, who serves as the liaison between the company and the faculty member. The winners are selected by the DuPont “Fellows Forum,” which includes the company’s top scientists. Each recipient is invited to present a seminar on his or her work to the DuPont research community.
You can learn more about the research programs of the award winners on the Owen group website and the Snyder group website.
