Chemical structure and reactivity establishes biological function. As bioinorganic chemists, the members of the Gibney Lab are designing protein ligands to test the fundamental engineering principles of metalloproteins in a constructive manner. We employ de novo protein design coupled with full chemical and biophysical characterization to address fundamental coordination chemistry issues of metal cofactor assembly, stability and biochemical function in peptide and protein ligands.
