As a volunteering member of the largest service organization at Columbia/Barnard, you have a great opportunity to make a difference in our community and to gain a better understanding of the social problems and solutions to those problems in urban America.

Take a look at some of the great programs we offer, and stop by 105 Earl Hall to find out how you can get involved. While most of the programs require at least a one year commitment, we also have a few short-term volunteer opportunities throughout the year that will be posted on the Web.

It is our hope that you will gain a sense of membership in Community Impact (CI), participate in organization-wide training sessions, issue forums, and other specials events, and take a leadership role in the programs in which you volunteer. We encourage you to consider taking a greater leadership role at the organization-wide level by seeking positions such as Program Coordinator or member of the Student Executive Committee.

Moreover, CI makes an investment in you, our volunteers.  CI volunteers breathe energy into our programs with their desire to make difference.  With involvement varying from personal relationships as a companion to an elderly person to administrative tasks of coordinators, you hone the skills necessary to create meaningful social change.

It is likely that as CI alumni, you will continue to serve in your community. Indeed, many alumni consider their experience with CI so significant that they begin to direct their career objectives into social service areas; others simply stay informed and involved with CI through the organization's alumni activities.

Together we can make a difference.
