THE WORLD WIDE WEB
Hebrew and Judaica on the Web
and Super Sites to Surf

The are many World Wide Web sites/Home Pages related to Jewish Studies both in the United States and in Israel. NETSCAPE is the preferred browser for access to the WWW.

Reading Hebrew in Netscape:

To read documents in Hebrew you will need to configure your browser with a bilingual font. There is a Truetype and Adobe PS type 2 font available via ftp:www1.huji.ac.il/pub/fonts/pc/webfont. The file names are webfont1.zip and webfont2.zip. Alternately, you can easily download these fonts from Freeware Hebrew Fonts where you will also find a duplication of the following installation instructions.

To install the fonts in MS-WINDOWS:

*.ttf = use the Control Panel in your Main Window and open the Fonts Manager.

*.pfb = use Adobe Type Manager to add. (if you don't have this program, either get it or omit this part)

To install the fonts in Netscape:

In the menu go to Options and click Preferences. In the Preference window, make sure the top pull-down menu is on Styles. For the Proportional Font use Web Hebrew AD font. For the Fixed Space Font use Web Hebrew Monospace font.

Now that you have installed the fonts, it's time to surf the Internet in Hebrew. Listed below are some of the "best" sites with their WWW addresses. You can either click on a name to open the Home Page or take note of the address for future reference.
