Visiting Scholars
Summer 2002
Sharing my best experience with fellow
students: Several of my students (Huabei Liu, Chris Burke, Dongju Lee)
are in Japan this summer. They are conducting shaking table tests with a
large-scale shaking table facility at NRIAE. This is a collaborative study
with my long supportive friend - Dr. Yoshiyuki Mohri. As a result, we have
three types of engineers: one of them started with building and then demolition,
the other one started with demolition, and one of them did building only
(civil engineer by definition).
Tsuyoshi Izutsu, a junior from the University of Tokyo, joined us for about a month. The research and class experience here will be very beneficial for his later study and career in civil engineering. This student exchange program with the University of Tokyo will be further promoted and I anticipate a wide participation next year.
Dr. Akira Tsukamoto is now finding the most cost effective way to upgrade our computer systems. Although most students own their own computer and laptop these days, we still wish to keep several up-to-date computers for research use.
