Civil Engineering
Construction and
Management
The Department of Civil
Engineering and Engineering Mechanics invites applications for a full-time,
tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in
the area of Construction Engineering and Management. Successful candidates are
expected to develop an externally funded research program, to contribute to the
undergraduate and graduate teaching mission of the Department and to fully
participate in professional service activities. Candidates should possess a
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management or a
closely related field. The preferred starting date is July 1, 2007, but this
date is negotiable.
The Department is interested in
applicants with background in construction engineering and management.
Candidates should be interested in quantitative research in broad areas that
may include, but will not be limited to: transportation systems, decision
methodologies, risk management, and project planning and controls. Multidisciplinary
research collaborations with other research-related departments at Columbia University will also be expected of the
successful candidate.
The Department's location in the
heart of New York City
provides a unique environment for construction education and research. Many
strong ties with the construction industry already exist and offer
opportunities for interaction between faculty and practitioners. In addition,
many of the construction management program's students are working
professionals, who enrich the learning environment.
