Description:
The Columbia University Sailing Club is a student-run club sport. The team is a member of the MAISA conference and regularly competes against varsity-level rivals. The team’s conference encompasses sailing teams in the mid-Atlantic region of the coast: this includes Fordham, Cornell, Princeton, Georgetown, and many more.
Tri-weekly practices are based out of City Island Yacht Club, a twenty minute drive from campus, where the team’s fleet of eight FJs is docked. The team travels for regattas. Nearly every weekend in the season, Columbia is represented at a regatta, whether it is in Annapolis, Ithaca, or Boston.
The fall season begins concurrently with classes and continues into November, when brave sailors don dry suits and many layers of fleece to stay warm. Before hitting the water in the spring, Columbia sailors travel for an intensive week-long training trip during spring break. Another season of racing in spring concludes the year.
Columbia’s Sailing Club is accessible to all interested students. Whether you have been sailing for years or are intrigued by the sport, the team will welcome you and provide and environment to further your technical sailing skills.
