ABOUT FIRST FRIDAY
WHO WE ARE
Since 1966, the Columbia Queer Alliance is proud to continue its legacy of pioneering activism and social justice, breaking down barriers and fostering strong, engaged communities along the way. We have continued to stand up, speak out and organize for queer students and their allies by facilitating educational workshops, open forums, speaker series, and social events. Membership is open to all Columbia students and affiliates.
WHAT IS FIRST FRIDAY?
CQA re-launched First Friday Dance in 2007 to salute the accomplishments and continued success of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender students and their allies, as well as their organizations. First Friday Dance is an important part of the work we do in fighting homophobia and building communities, using our creativity and passion to raise public awareness not only on campus, but throughout the country as well.
We are in our second year, following a successful year event where an audience of hundreds of people attended First Friday Dance every month, which culminated in a prom that included a professional photographer. First Friday Dance brought together leaders of the LGBT community, the wider campus leadership and media alike.
