The Center for Research on Information Access (CRIA) is not currently an active component of Columbia University Information Services Division. (January 2004)

The Center was established in January 1995 with a four-fold mission:

  • Establish visibility for Columbia University as a leader in Digital Libraries, Digital Government, and other areas involving interdisciplinary projects for computing in distributed networked environments;
  • Establish and reinforce multidisciplinary links between the Libraries, Academic Computing, and Academic Departments;
  • Build and expand the funding base for projects in Digital Libraries, and application of distributed computational technologies;
  • Assist in identifying new research opportunities and finding appropriate players within Columbia University, the United States, and the international community.

The Project Director of CRIA was Dr. Judith L. Klavans
