Another excellent performance by the league team against a good Warriors
team. The early season rust of the bowling seems to be slipping away, and
the fielding is much improved in the last 2 weeks.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat for the second week (always a
bonus), Gillen and Raghu saw us to a very steady startof 37 from 10
overs. Batting was not easy as the VCP1 pitch was a bit up and down. One
of the openers droppped short a few times, and Gillen put him away for 3
fours behind square. Raghu was a little more uncomfortable with the
variable bounce and eventuallt succombed off the shoulder of the bat to
gully.Uday joined Gillen in a fine stand taking us up to 94 in 20 overs
when Uday couldn't get on top of a cut, guiding it to point. Kabir top
edged a sweep for 3 (all overthrows), Faisla was caught behind off a big
leggy, but Gillen completed a good 50 with a dropped catch at deep
square. Vishnu looked great again for his 25, but the tail again fell away
far too easily with Ramesh, Ed, and Michael not contributing, and Raj
given caught behind off the shoulder first ball, CUCC all out 161. We
thought we were 20-30 runs short of what we should have posted.

However, Dhruv and Michael bowled really well to start their
innings. Kabir (keeping for teh first time and doing an excellent
job) took a flying one-handed catch to get one opener off Dhruv in
the third over, Ramesh took a good catch a third man off a top edged cut
off Michael, and the #3 got a leading edge off Michael straight to Uday at
cover. 10/3 off 5, pressure totally on Warriors. The #4 is their best bat
and he smacked a few lusty blows, but looked more streaky than we had seen
before, and was dropped twice. When he cracked a full toss straight back
to Michael, ten Kabir took another off an inspired Dhruvster, we were well
on top. Ramesh replaced Michael to get an LBW from a straight ball that
the batsman barely played at, then bowled their last decent bat with a
shooter. Warriors were psyched out by the pitch and had shown no guts for
a fight. Their #8 was the best in that regard, and battled for a
while. Raj came on to bowl as a totally unknown prospect, and proceded to
bowl and absolutely crap short slow ball that bounced in his half of the
pitch. Unfortunately for the batsman he toed it stright to Michael at
midwicket. An "entertaining" 2 over spell from Raj that included a full
toss 4 feet over the batsmans head straight to Kabir's gloves was
soonover. 2 wickets to go. Ed had been wheeling away at the other end and
finally got the reward with an LBW against the #8, and some extra bounce
to the #11, bowled off midriff. An exceelnt 50 run victory with everybody
contributing in some way. The batting of the tail however again was very
badly executed.

With Mark and Lakshmanan to come into the team and a 2-0 start to the
season all looks good heading into the Memorial day weekend break. Next
