Match Report, Apr 15th, 2006
Captain: Venu
Opposition: Stony brook University Cricket Club

Man of the Match: Ajay 27 n.o, 3 Wkts

Thanks Ratesh for doing the report and Scorecard!!!

A Great partnership between Sayan and Suraj to get CUCC out of a fix (Excellent batting by Sayan, 2 weeks in a row now). Good finish given by Ajay and Sunil - made all the difference when opposition started chasing. Excellent team effort and all-round performance (been a highlight the last 3 games we won). Good job guys.

Highlights
Batting: Arvind 31, Sayan 32, Suraj 32, Ajay 27
Bowling: Ajay 3 Wkts., Venu 3 Wkts.,
Catches: Laks 3 Cts.
Result: CUCC won by 21 runs

With 80 degree weather and both oppositions on the field we were heading for a fun day in the middle.
Stony brook won the toss and decided to field.

Arvind and Ratesh opened the innings for CUCC. With the damp pitch the ball was taking light years to come on to the bat with the occasional ball keeping very very low. Both openers hit boundaries before Ratesh went for a wild swing off a long hop. He didn't connect and got out for 8, score 20/1. Pavan joined Arvind and Pavan didn't last long either making 6. Arvind took his time hitting the occasional boundary and pushing the singles to keep the scoreboard ticking. Laks and Arvind played well together until Laks skied one to the long on boundary only to see the fielder using his balls to catch the ball on the second attempt, yes that's right he used his balls. Arvind stuck in well until finally being bowled to an outswinger by Sid. Venu came in and was out with short mid wicket picking up a sharp chance just inches off the ground. Somehow Venu's shots bring the best out of fielders. With plenty of overs to spare and the desperate need for some occupation of the crease at 5/90 Sayan and Suraj joined in a long partnership to give us a launching pad for the last 10 overs. Both played out the overs and made a patient and rewarding 32 each. The last 4 overs of slogging were up to Ajay and Sunil. Number 9 and 10 Sunil and Ajay both took the score from 180 odd to 222 in just a few overs, which made all the difference in the end. Ajay making 27 off 14 balls and Sunil hit a 6 off the last ball of the game to make 18 off 11.

CUCC started off bowling well with both openers Sunil and Monty aka "Full Monty" hitting the right line and length. In a repeat of the last game Sunil had the openers in a tangle to finally get an edge to safe hands of laks. Venu introduced himself into the attack and taking a chance on his back, bowled some good deliveries with every LBW shout being turned down. Apparently, every LBW appeal was turned down as going down the leg side but Venu kept his cool, surprisingly. Venu then struck with laks taking another catch and then bowling the opener with a beauty. Venu did bowl a lot of wides but took 3 vital wickets. Ajay was then into the attack bowling well for his 3 wickets, 2 good catches. A diving Ratesh took a catch off there in-form player Jagdeep while Sri-ram serving as 12th man for the injured one toed Sayan took a one handed catch in cover, both catches slowed the tempo down with Stony brook swinging at everything chasing a 10 an over required run rate. CUCC gave far too many extras but managed to hold on to a 21 run victory.

This completes a hat-trick run of victories and an all round team effort with every member contributing.
