Match Report, Apr 8th, 2006
Captain: Venu
Opposition: Westchester Cricket Club

Man of the Match: Laks, 54 N.O., 1 Wkt.

The Usual Saturday drama spilled over onto Sunday this season. We didn't have an extra access card to storage so Sunil and rest had to wait till Venu got there to get them in. Reached VCP to find out whole of VCP was taken over by the over zealous football/soccer crowd. With no pitches we managed to find the farthest damn pitch to play on. CUCC won the toss (and some advice from Madhura), decided to field.

CUCC started with our young colt Sunil and old war horse Madhura. Sunil picked up from where he left the week before. Bowling with great control, line and length and plenty of swing to trouble the batsmen. He got the opener for a duck off the 3rd ball with a peach of a delivery with Laks taking a nice catch in the slips. Madhura on the other end stuck to line and length more than pace and kept troubling the batsmen. Soon CUCC was running through their top order and had reduced them to 3/10. With Sunil picking up another wicket in his second over. He was a bit unfortunate, beating the batsmen repeatedly, as he should have picked up more wickets. But catches either went over slips or fell in no man's land. Madhura got the number 2 to hit the ball straight to Ajay (first of his 2 catches). Their captain had survived a huge caught behind (the umpire seemed to have turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to the catch), and another catch spilt at mid off. He however did take the attack to CUCC tonking a few out of the ground. Laks and Arvind took over and Laks seemed well in control while Arvind was struggling to control the swing. He however got their captain caught and bowled, while Laks cleaned up their number 4 with a beautiful yorker. An erring Arvind was replaced by Ajay who was the third bowling change to have fetched CUCC a wicket immediately. Ajay bowled through his 7 and kept it quite tidy picking up 2 more wickets with Sunil pouching one of those catches. Our bowlers did get hit in the end with their tail deciding to give it a go. Monty bowled much better than his previous outing and picked up his first wicket for CUCC and followed it up with another. Keep it going Monty.

CUCC opened with Arvind and Ratesh. Both of them looked comfortable and kept the scoreboard ticking till Ratesh went for a suicidal run (thought the guy NOT in whites was umpire).... Arvind too departed to their opening bowler (Atta) who was the pick of their bowlers. Pavan didn't last long either and he fell LBW for a duck. Then the skipper hit a couple of boundaries to then see his stumps rearranged. At 4/32 CUCC was in trouble. That's when Laks and Sayan put together a great partnership. Sayan started off a bit circumspect while Laks was picking up those ones and twos, till both got comfortable. Laks then opened up and went on a rampage toying with the opposition bowling and picking up gaps at will. He tonked a few as well causing Madhura to start yelling go Venu go Venu! Both put on 62 runs partnership (a much needed one) which pulled CUCC from a precarious position to put us in a winning one. Sayan fell in the run to victory while Laks finished it off in style picking 16 runs in the last over to register his first 50 for CUCC in last 3 seasons. Bat on Laks, we need more of those.

In the end a very good win for CUCC (won by 5 wickets and 11 overs to spare). Excellent bowling by Sunil and the rest, while great batting by Laks, Sayan. a great team effort to win it, 2 in row guys lets keep it going.
